2008

So, Chris and I haven't really been keeping up with the blog. So much has changed since the last time we posted. In September, we bought our first house. We absolutely love it, but we do still need to decorate it a bit more and furnish some more rooms. Fortunately, it has given us ample room to host all of our many visitors!
We are living in Lakeland, FL, which is about half way between DIsney World and Tampa. We have a beautiful lake behind our house. We are still waiting on finding our first gator out there. THe most exotic wildlife we have encountered out here are the birds. As Chris likes to put it, our house is directly in the early morning flight path of some large strange birds. Each morning, as the sun comes up, we are awakened by their extremely loud crowing. I use the term "crowing" for lack of a better word. It sounds like a noise you would hear from a creature from Mars or something. Needless to say, we do not enjoy being woken up at the crack of dawn.
I have been working at Disney World on the weekends for the past three months now. While I am happy as can be working for Disney again, I do not love what I am doing. That is putting it mildly. I drive the rafts to Tom Sawyer Island. You may be asking- are these rafts on a track? Of course not! That would be too easy. So, with my zero physical coordination level, I have somehow learned how to drive and dock these boats. Just keep your fingers crossed you don't read any headlines about Disney Riverboat smashing into wooden raft. That is a very real possiblity in the Rivers of America. I have only had one near disastrous incident with the raft, in which I watched in horror as my raft starting to pull into the current of the riverboat as it passed. It was filled with guests, and I managed to distract them, while I struggled to grab the rope just as it was coming untied to pull the boat back. Very scary. Needless to say, I am looking for a transfer. Hopefully I will know something this week!
Chris and I were very excited to actually have a day off together this Saturday. It was so much fun, except for the hurricane force wind gusts. We went to see a Yankees/Devin Rays game at Legends Field. It was nice to see the good ole boys in pin stripes again, but boy was it cold. After that, we went to the Plant City Strawberry Festival. It was like the biggest, most hickish state fair you can imagine. We got to see pig races and a cattle auction. Of course, we also got to taste a variety of really healthy fair food....elephant ears, strawberry pizza, and hot chocolate. We left with an entire flat of strawberries for only $6.99. For those of you unfamiliar with a flat, it contains the equivelent of about 20 containers of strawberries that you would find at the grocery store. For a strawberry lover like myself, this was a fantastic bargain!
Anyways, not too much else going on! We are enjoying life out here in sunny Florida!
