A tearful goodbye to summer...
It was a sad, sad day today that I had been preparing for for about three weeks now. My first stop in the grocery store is always the produce section, where I have every fruit imaginable to choose from. About 3 weeks ago, I mentioned to the produce guy that the peaches were the biggest peaches I had ever seen. He responded by telling me that that means their season is coming to an end, as well as that of all of the summer fruits. I almost teared up in the grocery store after hearing that- what was going to anchor my breakfast fruit salads now? Well, each week, I happily saw plenty of peaches, so I was naively thinking he was wrong, and the peaches weren't going away anytime soon.
Well, today, it happened. My usual peach display was instead filled with apples of all varieties. Don't get me wrong- I do enjoy apples, but they just aren't the same. I found a sad little shelf of peaches behind them. I managed to find about 4 that looked edible, but they were awfully sad looking.
Oh well, I will try to look at it on the bright side- the end of summer fruit means the end of summer, and that is a very welcome change around here- we are expecting a high of only 87 tomorrow!
